Past Summers: Figurative Language Nearing the end of school had me thinking, "What am I going to do during the summer?" I already know for a fact that I'll be having loads of practices for wrestling and traveling as far as to another planet for tournaments. Hopefully I'll have some type of fun vacation, like the time I went to Florida. That was the best vacation I have ever had! It all started when we had to wake up super early for our flight that was going to leave at 7:00 a.m. So we loaded all our belongings into the mini van and rushed to the airport. We arrived right on time to check in, go through security, all the normal airport stuff, but as we were getting ready to get onto our flight they said that it would be delayed for a few hours. This really got me mad because I just wanted to go have fun already. It wasn't until 2-3 hours later when we finally got onto our flight to head to Florida. After a whole day of flying we got to Florida late at night. For the next couple of days I went to Busch Garden, Universal Studios, and Disney World. Busch Garden would be the most memorable park for me because they had roller coasters the size of a mini skyscraper. My favorite roller coaster was called Sheikra. Sheikra was by far the largest coaster I've ever been on. It was fast, unique, and gigantic. The overall ride was barely a minute long and the railings were wide. The weirdest thing about the ride was that it only had three rows the could fit up to five people and how you would get onto the ride. First, you would be seated. Then, when everyone was properly buckled in, the floor underneath would descend away so your feet would be hanging. Like ever typical roller coaster it went straight up super high, but instead of dropping right away the ride would hang over the edge for a good 20 seconds. On my first time on, I thought the ride had broken down. However, I learned that was part of the ride to get the riders scared. And it work great because I was wondering whether or not I would fall to my death. Overall, the entire trip to Florida was a blast, except for the fact that I was burning in an oven.
Resurrection The thought of losing something and bringing it back can be either a pleasant or terrible thought. However, if I were to bring something back from the dead I would choose to bring back the cartoon show, Adventure Time. As a kid I've always loved watching cartoons whenever I got the chance. Older cartoons in my opinion were way better than today's cartoons, considering that most of the cartoons I grew up with have been cancelled or have ended their series. At the time, Adventure Time had came out when I was around ten years old. As the first few episodes aired I instantly fell in love with the new cartoon. From there on out, every Monday when a new episode would come out I would watch them while eating my dinner. However, as I grew up I had less and less time to focus on cartoons. Then, I just stopped watching. After awhile, I was bored of watching Youtube all day and decided to watch Adventure Time. I had re-watched a bunch of their seasons until I realised they had stopped uploading episodes frequently. I checked and saw that the show had stopped at one of the seasons because it was the last episode of the series. In excitement, I was happy to watch the new episode, but as it neared the end of the episode I realised that this meant that my favourite cartoon was coming to an end. All the good memories of Adventure Time slowly started to die in my mind and from that day forward watching cartoons hasn't been the same. Propaganda What is propaganda? Propaganda is to promote or publicise a type of political cause or point of view. People have mainly shown propaganda on posters that have a certain message and an image that represents the cause/ point of view. Some examples of famous propaganda include "We can do it!", "Knit Your Bit", and "I Want You". "We can do it" was originally created for Westinghouse Electric and to boost women's confidence who were already working in factories. Later in the 80's, it was rediscovered and instead used for promoting feminism. "Knit Your Bit" was created by the American Red Cross and was used to encourage women to knit socks for soldiers. At the time, most of the military's clothes were manufactured in factories, but in participating in this act would show a great deal of patriotism towards our country. And lastly, there was "I Want You" with the iconic Uncle Sam pointing at the audience. This propaganda was first spotted on the cover of Leslie Weekly in 1916 when the U.S. was going into World War 1 and was used to help recruit men into the military. This is me Movies As a kid, always been excited for one or two particular movies for one year, but this year I'm excited for most of the new thrilling flicks coming to theater! To name a few that I know for sure I'm watching are movies like, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Deadpool 2, The Predator, and the movie everyone is talking about, Avengers: Infinity Wars. Crutch Chaos Around the world there are many good things happening for our future. However, why is it that there is so much chaos that happens too. There are sources of chaos that involve wars, natural disasters, shootings, and many other smaller issues. These issues have caused many problems for different countries ,especially for the US. During recent times there have been many shootings that have led to more problems. I'll be mainly talking about the shooting in Las Vegas and another that happened in a high school in Florida. Unity What is unity? Unity is to be joined together as one whole. Throughout US history there have been many examples of unity. One of the main historical points of unity is in the American Civil War. The war started in 1861, because many people had different thoughts on slavery. The north thought that slavery was wrong and that African Americans should have equal rights. The south thought that slavery should continue and that African Americans are not people. These thoughts eventually led to the start of the American Civil War and the separation of the United States into the Union(North) and the Confederate(South). The Union was led by the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, while the Confederate was led by Jefferson Davis. For the Union they had about 2,100,000 soldiers, but even with the smaller number of about 1,000,000 soldiers from the Confederate they still put up a good fight do to their better military leadership. In 1865, strength in numbers proved to be better as the Union won the war. Source: http://www.historynet.com/civil-war
Dreams What are dreams? Dreams are thoughts, images, and your imagination putting everything you know into one whole big mess. This is why strange and unbelievable things can happen. For many dreams they can be completely random or have meaning to them. One of the most common dreams is when you are falling. This may mean that you are insecure and/or overwhelmed in the real world. Other examples of this include being naked or flying in your dreams. According to https://www.dreamscloud.com/en/dream-dictionary being naked shows that our identity has been taken away and that your real self is revealed to others. Flying symbolizes that you are feeling happy and that you are on the top of the world. One of my dreams I had as a kid was being in a zombie infested world. I could have dreamt of this because of the many action movies I had watched. Beg, Borrow or Steal Scars Food As a human I generally love eating food. Whether I'm craving something I want or because I just have to eat. Sure everyone loves different foods and eating them, but sometimes this can be over done. In doing this, it can cause weight gain and obesity. This is why eating right and getting the right amounts of nutrition is important in our everyday lives. Today I'll be discussing on what important nutrients you need in your body. The five necessary nutrients you need in your body are grains, protein, dairy, fruits and vegetables. Grains are a good source of fiber, vitamin B, minerals (iron, magnesium, selenium, etc.) and other nutrients(Grains: wheat, rice, cereals, oatmeal, etc.). Protein is an important building material for our body. It helps build and repair tissue; This involves the making of enzymes, hormones, and any other body chemicals we need. Also, helps with building bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood(Proteins: plant proteins, and different types of meat). Dairy is good for vitamins and minerals. Dairy is even used for healthy dieting and/or maintaining a fit weight when eating low-fat dairy(Dairy: milk, cheese, yogurt, and varieties of creams). Fruits and vegetables are another beneficial way of getting vitamins and minerals into your body. Eating both of these types of food will help prevent different diseases.(Fruits: berries, apples, grapes, etc. Vegetables: lettuce, corn, tomatoes, peppers, etc.) When eating all of these nutrients at a healthy rate, your body will lose weight and you will improve in your everyday life.
Heroism What is heroism? Heroism is being brave and showing courage in doing something right. Heroism can be shown by the little things or solving big problems in our community. Whether it's giving money to the poor or helping people affected by a certain disaster. I'll be discussing about the types of people that came together to display their heroism during and after the Las Vegas shooting. During the shooting, many citizens helped others for their safety. Some guided others to a secured area, carried the injured to safety, donating blood, and even going above and beyond by using themselves to protect those that couldn't. While citizens did these rightful deeds, paramedics came to the scene to take the injured to the hospital right away. Police also came to protect citizens that were in the area and secure the area for any other threats trying to harm them.
A Moment of Zen What is ''A Moment of Zen"? Some may think of it as related to meditation or others may see it as being a catchy title for a weird event from The Daily Show. The way I see it is from both definitions, meditation and weird events. For me these two definitions of a moment of Zen occur in my dreams. One, because I'm sleeping (basically meditating) and two, in my dreams I have weird stuff happening in them. In one of my dreams a huge R2-D2 computer toy I had appeared. My surroundings were filled with warm colors (red, orange, and yellow). Suddenly, a kid walks into the scene and sits on the huge toy. The dream ends and I always wonder why my brain dreamt of that. According to an article, "How To Control Your Dream" it states that the things you dream of are determined basically by you. It depends on what you hear and see through your day and/or before you go to bed. Also, how you position yourself when sleeping can have and affect on what you are dreaming about. One time I had one of these causes have affect on one of my dreams. The dream was short, finding myself submerged in underwater. I woke up half wake not being able to move, only seeing black, but for some reason I could hear and feel around me. Moments later I woke up out of breath because I was face down on a pillow. Some how my dream of being submerged in water was brought up because I was positioned face down into my pillow.
Soul Killing As I grew up I had many soul killing moments. From having to deal with long waits when I was little to boring times in my life, here is one of the most soul killing moments in my life. It was new years eve and every year me and my family would go to San Francisco to celebrate and watch an hour of fireworks go off. There were cool at first when I was little, but year after year it got more and more worse as I grew up. Standing around and walking for miles wasn't what I had intended and when I was in the 5th grade, that was the last year we went to San Francisco to celebrate new years. We had gotten to San Francisco early to eat and then after that go to Gaghirardelli's Famous Chocolate Factory for some delicious dessert. When we were done, all we did was walk around for hours to burn off the food we'd eaten. As it got close to 10:30pm-ish we would start to make our way near the Golden Gate bridge to try and get good seats for the fireworks. Unfortunately for us we got bad seats this time and me, my brother and dad all had to use the restroom. We tried looking for one and found a restroom on a nearby street. The reasons why this was the most soul killing time there, was because we all had to wait for an hour in line just to go to the bathroom; and that wasn't even the worst part of new years! While it was about to be our turn to use the restroom, the fireworks started to go off and some drunk dude or at least I think drunk cut us in line. We were about to go in and he walks right in front of us and almost starts to use the restroom. Furious, my dad walks in and pulls the guy out, nearly getting into a fight, but doesn't. This dude walks away with his wife/GF and the people in line behind us start cheering since they saw what my dad did. Anyways, we get back to my step mom and sister and leave. And then another soul killing moment happens; We get stuck in traffic, but luckily I fell asleep to not be there for when it happened.
Color About 8% of males and 0.6% of females have colorblindness. Colorblindness can affect you either a lot or very little. The different types of colorblindness are Red- Green, Blue-Yellow, and Complete color blindness. The types of red-green colorblindness are Protanomly, Protanopia,Deuteromanly, and Deuteranopia. In Protanomly, red, orange, and yellow appear more greener than usual. This doesn't really affect daily life and is an X-linked disorder that has a chance to happen in 1% of males. Protanopia shows red as black and different shades of orange, yellow, and green appear as yellowish. This colorblindness has a 1% chance in males. Deutermanly affects yellow, green and violet. Yellow and green look more redder, while violet is hard to tell the difference from blue. This colorblindness is the most common and has a 5% of males. Lastly, Deuterranopia causes red to look like a brownish-yellow. Also, you wouldn't be able to see green, but instead see beige. This affects 1% of males. In Blue-Yellow colorblindness there is Tritanomaly and Tritanopia. Tritanomaly affects blue, yellow and red colors. Blue looks greenish, yellow and red are hard to differ from pink. This colorblindness is very rare and is an autosomal dominant disorder. Males and females are affected equally by this blindness. Tritanopia causes blue to look green and yellow as violet or light grey. It's extremely rare and is an autosomal recessive disorder. People with complete colorblindness either have Cone Monochromacy or Rod Monochromacy or Achromatopsia. Cone Monochromacy is when one of the three cones don't work. There's is a red, blue, and green cone. If only one of these cones work then it will be harder to recognize any colors because you would only see certain ones.
Home At my house I do the things I love the best or hate to do. Whether it's sleeping, doing homework, playing games, etc. Doing my homework is probably the worst thing to do at my home. Sometimes it takes me a while to do, its loud, or I might not feel like doing, but I do it any way because my dad wants me to. Chilling watching TV or YouTube is always entertaining. I'll be on the couch watching some cartoons or watching boxing/MMA videos on YouTube , while eating food, which is my second best thing to do besides watching something. Playing video games is fun with friends. I would play first-person shooters, adventure games, or anything that is enjoyable and can be played with my friends. The one game I've been playing the most is Destiny 2! It's hella fun and better than the first game. Grinding for loot, building my character, traveling to different planets to fend off the darkness (Evil alien creatures) is my favorite part of the game because it never gets old. All of these activities are fun and all, but everyone knows the best thing to do is SLEEP! Wrapping yourself with that think and cozy blanket of yours or having the fan on while you sleep is the best. Period. Then, the worst part comes when you have to force yourself out of bed to whatever you do in you day.
Lost Development: Uncharted Lost Legacy is a video game that I will be giving a review on. It was released on Aug. 22 2017, developed by Naughty Dog and Published by Sony Computer Entertainment. You can play it on the PlayStation 4 console. Story: Lost Legacy goes off from the 4 other Uncharted games and is a standalone from them, meaning that it doesn't follow the same protagonist, but instead different characters from the original series. The main characters are Chloe Frazer, the treasure hunter and Nadine Ross, the mercenary for hire. You follow them on an epic adventure to find the tusk of Ganesha in the lost city Halebidu, located in India. They eventually run into another tusk seeker/ Indian terrorist named Asav, who gives them more problems even though they already have many. Throughout the game we learn more backstory and reasoning on both characters and why they do what they do. Both Chloe and Nadine end up getting into lots of conflict and arguments, but in the end pull themselves together and save the lost city from being destroyed by Asav. Review: Gamespot has rated the game w/ a 9/10 and calls it "The best in the series while also making its own mark as a standalone Uncharted that isn't anchored to Nathan Drake's harrowing exploits." IGN says "The Lost Legacy succeeds on the strength of its characters and writing." giving it a 7.5 Game Hype gave Uncharted Lost Legacy a 10/10 saying: "Any doubts I had with Uncharted: The Lost Legacy completely were blown away in the first hour of my playthrough. It may not be the longest of Uncharted but it definitely one of my favorites in the series!"
Transformation In the beginning, there were little to no tools, until the Stone Age. The Stone Age or Paleolithic was when tools were created for survival, hunting, and preparing food. Around 300,000 years ago, during the Middle Paleolithic, humans found a way to make blades out of a single strong stone. 40,000 years ago, during the Upper Paleolithic, was where you can use wood, bones, etc. to shape a stone. All these ages then led to the Copper, Bronze, and Iron Ages. Smelting melts to form items brought new technology and techniques. All different types of ancient civilizations produced some sort of the greatest progression in technology and engineering. Examples of advance ancient civilization are the Egyptians, Chinese, and Greeks, just to name a few. The Egyptians built many simple inventions that helped with daily life. One of the greatest accomplishments done by the Egyptians had to be building the pyramids. The Chinese were known for first discoveries and developments. Some things like, paper, compasses, natural gas as fuel, etc. Greeks were experts in engineering and had invent many things, even besides technology. They tested with wind power, invented warfare weapons like catapults, did ancient agriculture, and much more. Then the time of the Renaissance came and many things we use today come from here. This era brought mainly military related inventions, but some inventors/artist, like Leonardo da Vinci looked into the early stages of many things. Some drawings show that he drew pictures of parachutes, miniature tanks, human power helicopters, and many more early inventions. We then go into the 19th century where we developed improvements in transportation, construction, and manufacturing. One of these inventions involved steam powered engines. In the 20th century, we improved on mass production, automobiles, computer tech, jet engines, mobile phones, nuclear power, practically everything. This brings us to our time, the 21th century, where we're still improving off of the last century's stuff, but making them better. We're currently looking into quantum computers, gene therapy, 3D printing, nuclear technology, advanced materials, drones, wearable electronics, artificial intelligence, the list goes on and on.
